Mountain biking
Mountain biking has become more and more popular in the last few years thanks to the many routes which Lake Garda and its surroundings offer.
The most important places for the experienced mountain-bikers are the mountains surrounding the lake. Particularly worthy of mention are northern lake areas among Riva, Arco and Torbole suche as the tracks on Mount Brione, the climbing up to Lake Ledro and for the most trained bikers Mount Tremalzo with its breathtaking steep slope along the old military road towards Limone. Such tracks host famous competitions like the "Bike X treme" and the "Bike Marathon".
Thanks to the cableway service from Malcesine to the peaks of Mount Baldo it is also possible to ride mountain-bike at a high altitude with a lot of different opportunities.
Towards the southern end of the lake you can go by mountain-bike on the mountains of Pizzocolo and Mount Spino between Maderno and Gardone Riviera. North of Gargnano there are Mount Denervo and the Valvestino valley leading up to Cima Rest, where you can admire the old haylofts recently restored by the Alto Garda Bresciano Natural Park. Lake Garda hills offer mountain-bikers interesting routes in the morainic anphitheatre area, among the provinces of Brescia, Mantova and Verona, and along the Mincio river.
A new idea combines the comfort of the bus and the pleasure of a bike ride: the Bus&Bike Service leads you on top of the hills where you then can down hill by bike. Every year more than thousand bike fans enjoy this in the Garda region offered service: in Bardolino, Garda, Torri del Benaco, Albisano, S. Zeno di Montagna, Prada), in Caprino-Novezza and in Lessinia (Aptv Tel. 045 8057911).
There are mountain-bike hires in almost every place on the lake and for information you can ask to the local sport shops and also tourist agencies.
