Monte Baldo
The extraordinary flora of the Garden of Europe
One of the most charming natural settings in the Alps, a marvelous "terrace" overlooking Lake Garda that offers a view of the Pre-Alps, the Po-River plain and the Dolomites.
On the coast of the Lake and on the low slopes of Valdadige you can find the evergreen sub-mediterranean species; higher, it is possible to find alpine species. The variety of the species of this area attracted the attention of the botanists in the past, who recognized then for the first time a lot of species that were still unknown. This fact explains why a lot of flowers have the name of "Baldense" (Anemone Baldense T., Galium Baldense Spr., Knautia Baldensis Kern etc.), and also why Monte Baldo is called "Hortus Europae" (The Garden of Europe). In the Botanic Garden of Monte Baldo are gathered several hundreds of species typical of Monte Baldo.
In addition to its rare flower species, Monte Baldo is renowned for the fossils cherished by its rock formations. Monte Baldo is rich in excursion paths and mountain bike trails of all kinds of difficulty level and length.
The new cableway, unique in the world with its rotating cabins, carries from Malcesine to Monte Baldo in only ten minutes. Even paragliders and bicycles can be trasported on the cableway.
